Only In My Dreams was originally released on the Gold Greatest Hits album (2001) but the lyrics in the album booklet did not match the song on the CD. The printed lyrics were actually for the original demo of Only In My Dreams.
But only in my dreams
I'm living without you
Giving my heart to somebody new
It never should have been this way
You know we almost had it made
With feelings so right
How wrong could I be?
That was then
And now there's not a day I live
Can't pretend
That there's anything I wouldn't give
To believe in the end
You'll come back to me
'Cos now you're gone
Standing still in time
I should be movin' on
Leaving you behind
But only in my dreams
I'm living without you
Giving my heart to somebody new
(To somebody new, to somebody new)
And I can make believe (Make believe I'm getting over you)
I'm getting over you
But that's just the part that I just can't seem to do
And I could still pretend this broken heart will mend
But only in my dreams
I was wrong
I never should have shied away
Holdin' on
To tender words I should've said
A lesson well learned
But I learned it too late
Now you're gone
How am I supposed to live
When my heart's no longer mine to give
It's locked in the past
Can't go back
It's a cruel twist of fate
And now you're gone
There's no good in goodbye
I should be movin' on
Leavin' you behind
But only in my dreams
I'm living without you
Giving my heart to somebody new
And I can make believe (Make believe I'm getting over you)
I'm getting over you
But that's just the part that I just can't seem to do
And I could still pretend this broken heart will mend
But only in my dreams
So I guess I'll keep dreamin'
Maybe one day I'll let you go
But seeing is believing
Got to let you know
In my dreams
I'm without you
(Livin' without you)
I give my heart
To someone new
(Only in my dreams)
Make believe
I'm over you
And I could still pretend this broken heart will mend
(But only in my dreams)
But only in my dreams
I'm living without you
Giving my heart to somebody new
And I can make believe...
